Panthers Edge Jets in Shootout Thriller at Jack Burger Sports Complex

PORT HOPE, ON – The Port Hope Panthers delighted their home crowd on Saturday night, securing a narrow 3-2 shootout victory over the Amherstview Jets in a nail-biting Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) East Tod Division contest.

The game was a tight defensive battle, requiring extra time to settle the score after both teams traded goals in regulation. The Jets struck first on the power play in the opening period with a goal from Carter McKee. The Panthers responded early in the second, with Zach Naherne tying the game.

Amherstview quickly reclaimed the lead with a shorthanded marker from Brad Wilson, but Port Hope’s Luca Damiani-Reis netted a late goal in the second to send the teams into the third period deadlocked at 2-2.

After a scoreless third period and seven minutes of overtime, the game proceeded to a shootout. Port Hope’s Zach Naherne was the hero, scoring the lone goal for either side to give the Panthers the crucial extra point.

Panthers netminder Braden Henderson earned the win, turning aside 30 of 32 shots, while his counterpart, Tyson Wilcox of the Jets, put up a strong performance with 34 saves on 36 shots.
